I look forward to leaving any blogs you write. I have an Umbrella Cockatoo, Max, who is a neglect rescue. I believe he is about 6 or 7 years old, and has, I think, gone into puberty, or sexual maturing, and has gotten to be very difficult. I am always on the lookout for expert information in dealing with this issue. I have done certain things to hopefully ease the transition, and to keep myself from further bites. He is no longer allowed on my shoulder, and I definitely do not allow him any interaction with others, as I do not want anyone bitten. He is, I believe, a little better than he was last year. I try only to touch and pet him around the head area. I have had to restrict his out of cage time more than I used to, as my living situation has changed. I look forward to reading some interesting blogs on parrots and behavior.
I missed your workshop in San Diego on August 18. I hope to have a chance to attend one next time you are here. I have a foundling Military Macaw who has been with us for 8 years now. We guess that he had been in the wild for at least a year. No idea how old he was when he joined us, but he did know the "step up" command and seems to have been clicker trained, since he clicks at us and it seems to mean approval. It has been a learning experience for us all. Accidental foster mom, Charlotte
